SUMMER 2008
Dear Friends, Sponsors, Volunteers, Adoptive Families,
and Colleagues!
Summer is just around the corner and all of us are enthusiastically awaiting the arrival of the warm sunny days! Ark Mission is glad to inform that we received a request from Russia. From the request we learned that Russian officials were amazed at the positive impact that the Summer Program 2006 and 2007 had on the children who were involved in the summer camp. Russian officials asked us to participate in Summer Program 2008 and make a memorable summer for the children. You are probably familiar with our stories from the summer camps we did in the previous years. This year we would like to expand our program and involve more children to ensure that they are receiving an unforgettable and quality summer vacation. In the previous years we had 120 children who attended the summer camp, but this year we are hoping to have more than 2,000 children. Ark Mission is planning to work simultaneously in several different camps. |

A Heartfelt Thank You from Russian Orphans!
 |
Ark Mission is very excited to report that we received our first “Thank You” letter from the orphans, in response to the winter holiday events program that is taking place in Russia. As we all know, winter holidays in America start with Christmas and end after the New Years is celebrated. Usually, a week after New Years children in America go back to school and start looking forward to spring break.
In Russia, children do not start their vacation until the beginning of January and do not go back to school until the end of January. This year Ark Mission and its sponsors organized a program for the orphaned children that consisted of a variety of different contests, concerts, a trip to the circus, and many other events. There were a total of 2,454 children that participated in these events from 110 orphanages and foster homes in the Ivanovo region. Right before New Years, Ark Mission and its supporting sponsors received our first letter about how the children started out their Winter Holiday vacation.

UNFORGETTABLE CELEBRATION
Everyone wants to celebrate during the holidays and to reflect upon the year that passed. It is especially an exciting time for the children in the orphanages because
they get a chance to host holiday parties filled with talent shows, costume parties,
and shows that allow their imaginations run wild!

Healthy Smiles Mean
Happy Children!
When someone takes a picture of you they usually tell you “Say Cheese!” making you open your mouth and reveal your teeth. People spend a lot of time making sure their pearly whites are in good condition. Unfortunately, children in Nepal do not have the basic necessities such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, and they almost never get to see the dentist. Currently there are more than 133 children that require dental treatment of which 55 children are less than 3 years old.

Milk Please!
Nepal is a third world country where children do not have enough food, milk, and fresh water. During my visit, I have noticed that there were a lot of children who were very skinny and did not have a lot of energy.
