We are happy to report that we recently received an update and full information about the success of the first Dental Camp in Nepal. Ark Mission was one of the sponsors that helped finance the program and it is great to see how much it accomplished! Ark Mission would also like to thank everyone who helped with the Dental Camp program! We couldn’t do it without your help and support! Ark Mission hopes that we can do this camp every month so that every child will have an opportunity to have his or her teeth checked by the dentists and receive proper dental treatment
When someone takes a picture of you they usually tell you “Say Cheese!” making you open your mouth and reveal your teeth. People spend a lot of time making sure their pearly whites are in good condition. Unfortunately, children in Nepal do not have the basic necessities such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, and they almost never get to see the dentist. Currently there are more than 133 children that require dental treatment of which 55 children are less than
3 years old.
Nepal is a third world country where children do not have enough food, milk, and fresh water. During my visit, I have noticed that there were a lot of children who were very skinny and did not have a lot of energy. Ark Mission decided to provide older children with a monthly supply of milk and baby formula for babies. Currently, Ark Mission is helping Nepal with the Milk Program, but we are receiving a lot of requests from other countries as well. Ark Mission is looking for sponsors.
Dear Friends, Sponsors, Volunteers, Adoptive Families,
and Colleagues!
Ark Mission began organizing Summer Program 2008 for children
in Russian orphanages including children with special needs.
Summer is just around the corner and all of us are enthusiastically awaiting the arrival of the warm sunny days! Ark Mission is glad to inform that we received a request from Russia. From the request we learned that Russian officials were amazed at the positive impact that the Summer Program 2006 and 2007 had on the children who were involved in the summer camp. Russian officials asked us to participate in Summer Program 2008 and make a memorable summer for the children. You are probably familiar with our stories from the summer camps we did in the previous years.
It finally happened! Olga, Ark Mission’s financial department employee, adopted Vanya from Kemerovo, Russia . Vanya is an outgoing, lively, and very intelligent four-year-old! Our Executive Director and Ark Mission staff decided to arrange a “Welcome Home” lunch party to celebrate Vanya’s arrival.
The day after the office lunch party, Olga arranged for Vanya to
be welcomed by the community and the church. The event was held at the Kàôåäðàëüíûé CîáîðÏîêðîâàÏðåñâÿòîèÁîãîðîäèöû, which is
a Russian church in Illinois.
Everyone wants to celebrate during the holidays and to reflect upon the year that passed. It is especially an exciting time for the children in the orphanages because they get a chance to host holiday parties filled with talent shows, costume parties, and shows that allow their imaginations run wild!
Several months ago we asked families to donate undergarments to orphaned children. This it is one of the biggest items that is taken for granted when people think of donations.
A project to help improve the living conditions
of the children at the Karaganda Baby House.
The baby house in Karaganda , Kazakhstan is home to 100 children, from age newborn to 4 years old. This orphanage has approached us with an urgent need. The building is very old and most of the widows are cracked, broken or are not working properly. Subsequently, the baby house is cold and drafty causing the children frequent illness.
The holidays are nearing and we are all getting prepared to go out shopping for presents, decorate our Christmas trees, we make plans for New Years parties, and set our New Years resolutions.
Ark Mission, Inc set a new goal for our winter project for the year 2007.
All of us have certain memories of our childhoods and one of the most vivid ones that every child has is the smell of the pine tree in their school or house. The smell of goodie bags that have Russian chocolate candy and tangerines. Unfortunately, children in orphanages do not have the opportunity to experience these simple pleasures of Christmas and New Years. This is why we want to help them, and make their dreams come true.
I just returned from a two week business trip in Nepal! I am thrilled to say that we completed our first and very successful adoption there.
Nepal is a country with a very old and interesting culture and history, but during this trip, the faces of its people are what intrigued me the most. I met hundreds of children in the orphanage and the streets of Nepal. Every face was unique and difficult to forget.
The boxing school was one of the most exciting programs our organization, with our sponsor support, developed in the last year. Starting out as a project designed to help hi-active children from orphanages in positively consuming their energy, this program was a tremendous success. The boxing school was more then a sport project, it was a chance for children to change their future. The sport group started one year ago at Moscow Region - Russia. Shy and skeptics at the beginning, the children achieved in a couple of months more than in the past few years.
Think of your favorite childhood memory… Every child loves spending time outdoors, playing with friends under the sun, running or jumping, swinging away, and playing in the sandbox! This is a ordinary summer day, filled with joy and happiness, for most of the children. But is not the same reality for every child, at least not for the abandoned children who live in orphanages in poor conditions. Even though spending time with friends in parks and in playgrounds makes their little problems temporarily disappear, very often the kids are confined into the orphanage buildings. Why? Because they don’t have playgrounds and parks to play in. This needy is the reason they have to spent time inside when they should be enjoying outside activities.
All over the world, the orphan children live in difficult times. For them problems like insufficient food and cloths, cold beds and unsanitary living conditions, are the cruel reality. Not having satisfied these minimal needs of day by day living, for them it is hard to hope for a better future.
With so many children in orphanages, it is not hard to imagine the scene of a caretaker piling up 3 or 4 kids into one little stroller! But thanks to one of our caring adoptive families, Ark Mission hopes to make this scene scarce! There are currently strollers on the market with 2-6 seats! We plan to buy at least 2 strollers for every orphanage that we currently support.
Thank you very much for your donations received in 2005!We still need your help. There are many babies in Eastern Europe that need lactose free infant formula. This is a common problem for infants all over the world. However, here in the United States , lactose free formula is easily accessible and reasonably priced. In Eastern Europe , when you can find it, lactose free infant formula is very expensive. Igor is one of many babies in Eastern Europe that requires a special, lactose free infant formula. At 11 months old Igor weighs only 10 ? pounds because so little of this special formula is available.
All over the world the children love sports. They love being active and consuming their energy positively. When we have been organizing the boxing school, there were many boys interested in tae kwon do and karate classes. The orphanages employers have found two amazing men who decided to spent their time setting up martial art classes.
If we lived in a perfect world, we would never see a child cry, feel lonely, or upset. But most importantly, we would never see a child who has lost all hope.
This year, we received hundreds of letters from orphanages, hospitals, and children's shelters with the hope of finding friends and sponsors. Each letter asked for different kinds of help. Many of them can not solve their problems alone, and greatly appreciate all the help that they can get.
